Sakon, Songkran, Udon and more…

On Sun 5 April we had the postponed celebration of my 70th Birthday at restaurant in Sakon Nakhon. This restaurant was chosen because of their selection of “western” food, for the “farangs”, but they also have good Thai food, for the Thai ladies. From my Belgium friends and Thai partners I received great gifts and the duck breast that I had was really great. Jan & Supana ordered a Birthday cake as desert. As a remark: the restaurant doesn’t serve alcohol and that was the only minor disappointing thing.

For us the celebration of Songkran started a little early with a work party for Siripron on Friday 10 April and I was already splashed wet during my Friday bike ride. On the first day Songkran, Monday 13 April, we joined the blessing of the older people of our village and after that the music (Morlam) started for the celebration of the village to raise money for our Temple. Siripron was asked to sit for the administration of the money gifts.

The next day, Songkran family day, Siripron helped her sister Warunee preparing a family dinner were we also celebrated the coming Birthday of the twin, Mudmie & Madmai. After the dinner and cake we did the Family water blessing. Wednesday, the last day of Songkran Siripron had to do overtime at the Annemai, so 1 day later, after work, we did the water blessing at our Temple – statue blessing and the family tombstone blessing.

In February I saw a message that the Dutch Embassy would come in April to Udon Thani for a lunch with the Ambassador and also for applications of a new Dutch passport. And because my passport is valid until November 2027 but has to be valid for a few months for my Thai visa I made an appointment. After a few preparations I received an email with a location, a date & a time and because 08:30 was early I booked the same Hotel for 1 night. So, on Wednesday 22 April we drove in the afternoon to Udon Thani, had a dinner at a BBQ restaurant at the shopping mall Central Plaza and the next day, after a good breakfast I applied for a new Dutch passport. Because everything was complete and my spare photo was according to the demands, we could drive back home early.

In April Siripron was busy preparing the rice field for the next rice season and she also helped family on their fields. Just before the first rains the “feed” the rice field with rice and after that a tractor ploughed the field. Because of the tractor a part of the dikes a broken and that had to be fixed. The first heavy rain came on 19 April and that was good for the rice fields but in our garden a fig tree felled down and we had to shorten other fig trees.

Other things that happened:
– We had cut some parts of the bigger trees and bushes.
– April 6 was Chakri Memorial Day, a day-off.
– I had to prove that I was alive otherwise my pension would stop paying.
– From Yes-fit I received my rewards of a Virtual challenge I did in 2025.
– April 24 was the Birthday of Fern, fiancé of oldest son Benz.
– The motorbike of Both, that Siripron uses, got repaired.
– I went to Kham Ta Kla for lunch and shopping.
– I’m building the none Lego Harry Potter “Diagon Ally”.
